5 Things To Know About @Megmafia

By @Spokenpriestess on 08/29/2017 in Top 5

We recently sat down with Megmafia to talk about how she's been doing, what her frustrations with the industry are, as well as what we can expect from her next. You know how we roll, as she spoke to us there are a few standout points that we picked from the conversation to highlight for you.

1. Megmafia is actually a TV star

We're not fronting on you with this one. Just 'cause some of us got acquainted to her on-screen work through the recent seasons of MTV's You Got Got, it doesn't mean it's all happening by chance. Megmafia has been in acting for a while having started her on-screen career on Soul Buddies as far back as 2009. We can't wait to see what more she explores in the world of television.

2. She's been working on her mixtape for the past 3 years

You've heard a lot of artists say some of their bodies of work, particularly their debut albums, have taken them a lifetime to put together. Megmafia, although she's dropped numerous mixtapes before, has been constructing her next mixtape titled Barkston Drive for the past 3 years. It got us asking, what in the world is in it? She says the mixtape is a trackback to where she really started; how she started and just what life was like when she first got into rap. Sounds like something to get into once it drops.

3. She hasn't spent a cent in the recent year for her music

Our biggest question to upcoming artists is always how they fund their activities, from recording to trying to put together music videos and more. Megmafia says she hasn't broken the bank recently while putting her work together. In fact, she hasn't used a Rand to pull the work off. Something that comes as both a surprise and once we ponder on it, not a surprise after all. Megmafia is a business woman and so when she says, "It's not about money all the time. It's about being creative and using your mind," we actually believe that she can run some activities cost free. Kudos to you on applying yourself ma!

4. She's not the typical lesbian rapper

The first thing that a lot of females are exposed to in rap is this absurd requirement to be "tough" in order to roll with the boys or to compete on the same level as them. We're slowly moving past that, but there are still some people who believe that lesbian rappers are all about being rough or violent. That's not the case with Megmafia. She's quite the romantic actually. She believes in all the sweet things in life, love and music. She won't be pulling a drive-by on anybody!

5. She was homeless at some point

A shocker right? Not quite. If you think about it, there are many people who are rendered homeless (even if briefly) all in the name of pursuing a dream. This especially happens a lot in the entertainment industry. You only hear of it once there are huge success stories to the people who've experienced this. In Megmafia's case, she was in negotiations on a shady "record deal" to which she was promised a new house among other things, and once the time to move in came the benefactor was not forthcoming. Talk about dodgy! We're glad you're safe and have since learned not to trust anyone that easily Megmafia.
