ShabZi Madallion has dropped his anticipated debut album SOUL and it's all the food your spirit might need for the longest time. The 13 track piece is packed with so much SOUL, from the mellow, boom bap-influenced beats, to the powerful songwriting. ShabZi encapsulates the spirit of reflection so well on this project.
I love his train of thought on this piece. Particularly the opening clip on Freed Thoughts. That man makes me giggle a bit at how blunt he is in his sermon about one needing to ruffle some feathers. In fact, the skits he uses throughout the album help carry the subjects and mood of this project. The sophisticated use of samples fused with ShabZi's story telling is rather mesmerizing too. The flow of music and the seamless continuation is something to awe over in a time where projects sound more like compilations of an artist's differing feelings daily. I am absolutely in love with Focused Lady and how ShabZi Madallion is not afraid to tackle "matters of the heart" in his raps and he does this with the highest level of eloquence. This is pure magic really.
