After a slight hiccup, PatrickxxLee decides to let go of his emotional number, Hurts To Feel. Ahead of his debut album release next week, he drops this relatable piece which will surely grip the hearts of many who have seen a dark time in their lives, particularly those who have suffered from and are fighting depression.
When I first heard this track it gripped my heart because of how Patrick simply embodies the thoughts I had in my mind all those days when the rain wouldn't stop pouring. Coming from rehab for his own depression, Hurts To Feel sounds like a cry for help and most importantly a platform to express those feelings that are so often hard to say out loud. You can, however, tell that the song comes from a place of triumph and strength given that he found the power to put into song his innermost lonely thoughts. The song borrows from rock elements in its execution lacking in a heavy bass as is typical of trap or hip hop, and this I find is what makes the song so potent. It's almost like a trip into a sombre, cluttered, yet twistedly beautiful place of pain, hope, and courage all clashing against each other.
It's really high time that our generation of artists speak up about their struggles because contrary to popular misconception, they too are human and we can all surely relate. I for one am extremely proud of Patrick for leading the conversation on depression. Nowhere Child is a beautiful piece of work and we can't wait for you to hear it.
