The cat is finally out the bag and we have just enough juice in our batteries to catch it. It's Gigi Lamayne's latest single titled 1 Bar and she's taking us back in time to the legendary Makhendlas' Iminwe Phezulu. If there's one thing about Gigi, she has the ability to rock any beat and type of music with prowess while never losing the rap skill she has so sharpened over the years.
On 1 Bar she rides this kwaito sampled beat which is set to hook a lot of South Africans crossing her over to more than just hip hop fans. She has a simple, singable, and catchy hook that also spawns the influence of kwaito hooks from back in the late 90's. The artwork is so gangster fusing her cheeky attitude to the time travel that this song is through the black and white theme on there. She's fusing, and seamlessly so. After mentioning that she wants to explore music to its fullest without being confined to the "rap/hip hop" box, she's definitely living up to her desires. We're totally feeling the delivery on the track. Gigi raps fiercely and just as you're into the rhymes she switches lingo to Afrikaans, then Zulu, and then she goes all "ghetto fabulous" on you - all in the same breath. Ai ngeke! CHARGE THE BATTERY, WE NEED MORE BARS MAMA!
