In part 2 of our conversation with Mo'lemi and Scoop Makhathini on land distribution, we talk about farming and the financial risks that come with that. We get a low down of how one can earn profits from farming, not always guaranteeing that it will be so. There's a long process involved in making produce and a level of commercialism that is concerned before one can make an income from their farm. It's so eye opening to come to the reality that it's not just about attaining land and becoming wealthy from it. The importance of sustainability, maintenance and the financial exercises involved in land distribution and/or farming cannot be stressed enough.
Planting food is a conscious exercise above and beyond profit gain. Like Mo'lemi says, planting vegetables in our small gardens and neighbourhoods is the beginning of this consciousness. Yoh, there are bars contained herein this conversation. I'm touched.
