Mos Def To Leave South Africa Tonight & Home Affairs Drops Charges Against Him

The Department of Home Affairs just wrapped up a press conference on Mos Def's World Passport story. As you know, Mos Def now known as Yasiin Bey, was not allowed to leave South Africa because he did not have the right papers. He was supposed to leave in February 2016 but has been here in South Africa ever since.

According to Home Affairs, Yasiin Bey apologised for using a World Passport which is not recognized in South Africa. Furthermore, Home Affairs announced that he will be leaving South Africa tonight but should he want to return he will need to apply and give reasons for why he wants to come back.

I am glad this saga is over. The sad news though, is we will never hear another Mos Def track because he announced his retirement this year.
