By @SkinnyGenesTV on 04/15/2016 in

Uno July is a long withstanding artist and feature of the currently fledging Cape Town hip-hop scene. Recently he followed up on his ‘Best Kept Secret EP’ with his first mixtape titled Uno ’n Only, his first projectas a solo artist. The mixtape features 21 solid tracks featuring some young and notable artists such Youngsta, SimmySimmyNya, J-oNE, Quest Maguire, Stan1, Zaya and Camo. Producers include Psyc’ AK, Desert Head from Christian Tiger School, Planet Earth, Miles Singleton and bulk of the production contributed by his “Notes From The Native Yards” album executive compadre J-oNE.

He describes it as an avant garde body of work inspired by his journey in life with a wide musical range and lyrically-influenced. Every track on the album is regarded as a think-piece based on his personal story, coming across in a most reflective, introspective and most honest way. Currently ‘Native Yards 57’ is the latest single off the project causing a mayhem of a buzz on the internet streets. The single features one of Cape Town’s prolific rapper/artist by the name of Youngsta and was also produced by Desert Head, who is one half of Christian Tiger School.

Uno July began his music career in 2005 originally as one half of Ill Skillz along with Jimmy Flexx in Cape Town. He recently rose to prominence after releasing his solo debut effort titled the ‘Best Kept Secret EP’ during the first quarter of 2015, and followed up by 3 critically-acclaimed hit singles titled ‘Skelem',‘Chankuras' and ‘Swelekisa’. The eccentric rapper was born in Gugulethu during the early-80s, he embodies the retro-become-nouveau personality dedicated to represent Cape Town art and music scene in a bigger way. Since the inception of Ill Skillz back in 2005, Uno July has been active along with his creative-partner Jimmy Flexx, recording a catalogue of 7 projects together within the 10 years span, and prominently sharing stages with international artists such as Slum Village, Kendrick Lamar, Lauryn Hill, Mos Def, DJ Premier, Pharoahe Monch, Jean Grae, Atmosphere, Blu & Exile. Locally they are well recognised as well rubbing shoulders with the likes of Tumi, Proverb, AKA, Reason, Prophets Of The City, Black Coffee, Hugh Masekela, Zaki Ibrahim, Okmalumkoolkat, Prokid and Khuli Chana just to name a few.
