Maftown Heights announces its SURPRISE ACT and MCs

Johannesburg, Thursday, 19 November 2015 – The sixth annual Maftown Heights festival spiced up by KFC set to take place on Friday, 27 November 2015, at Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown, Johannesburg from 15h00 till 03h00 has revealed that the legendary Kwaito trio, TKZee, will be one if its surprise acts at the festival. Maftown Height’s has also revealed that YFM’s Ayanda MVP and Channel O’s Scoop, will MC the event.

Channel O’s Brand Manager, Lowena Warries commented on having the famous trio perform at this year’s event, “We are so excited to have TKZee perform again after such a long break, and are happy to confirm that it’s yet another proudly Channel O moment. Channel O has long been a partner of Maftown Heights – a key event on the brand’s calendar and TKZee’s act will be in keeping with the legendary performances we’ve brought audiences every year.”

Those attending the 6th annual Maftown Heights festival will get a very rare experience seeing TKZee live on stage as the trio have not performed together in just over three years and it is still unclear as to when next if ever the group will perform again.

TKZee are living legends in the South African music industry and have influenced generations through their music. The group arrived on the Kwaito scene releasing singles “Take It Eezy” and then “Phalafala” which became a national anthem for the December holidays in 1996. “Shibobo” was yet another hit single released in 1998 featuring Benni McCarthy. This was at the height of soccer fever during the France World Cup for which South Africa had qualified. The single was produced by Zwai Bala and went on to become SA’s fastest and biggest selling single ever, reaching over 280 000 units with an unprecedented 100 000 units sold in the 1st month. When Halloween hit the streets later that year, the album sold over 300 000 copies. The group raked in awards at the South African Music Awards (SAMAs), in 1999; they took home an unprecedented five awards for Best Kwaito Single, Best Kwaito Album, Best Single, Best Video and Best Duo or Group. TKZee scooped a SAMA in 2001 for best Kwaito Single for “Izinjazam”. TKZee Family’s Guz 2001 was a runaway success reaching triple Platinum status.

With hit records under their belt that resonate with fans aged 18 through to age 40, the TKZee performance next Friday at Maftown Heights is a definite must see.

Set to hold the night together as MCs are YFM’s Ayanda MVP and Channel O’s Scoop.

Ayanda MVP first hit the entertainment industry at age 15 as a television presenter. It wasn’t until she was at university that she was able to hone in on her radio skills. Ayanda MVP joined YFM in 2013 and has made a noticeable mark at the station over the past 2 years. Ayanda MVP now hosts the mid morning show, Bona Fide, from 10am till 12pm every weekday.

Having joined the Channel O family in 2009, Scoop presents on Vuzu’s V-Entertainment and Channel O’s Turn Up, as well as numerous other shows he has embarked on in his personal capacity such as such as “Forever Young.
