New York City Renames Street In Honour Of Hip Hop On First #GlobalHipHopDay

By @Spokenpriestess on 06/08/2017 in

It's Global Hip Hop Day today (as soon as the Americans declare it) and obviously we've been here ahead of the pack but something I find particularly interesting about this "holiday" is that New York City is renaming a street all in the name of Hip Hop. Amazing!

Today, 8th March 2017, will see the city honour the culture by renaming Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, Hip Hop Boulevard. What a total wow! Am I the only one gawking out over this? I mean? This is an honour in tribute to the beginning of hip hop and DJ Kool Herc will be at the official reveal taking place at the birthplace of hip hop on 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, excuse me, I mean 1520 Hip Hop Boulevard. Celebrating along with the community will be a party at Cedar Playground with the likes of DJ Scratch, DJ Chuck Chillout, DJ Red Alert, Grandmaster Caz, Funk Flex, DJ Kast One, DJ Enuff, DJ Camilo, D-Nice, Kid Capri, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, The Lox, Cardi B, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, and French Montana just to name drop.

Say, if you were to rename a South African street for the culture, which would it be and what would you call it?
