It's debatable whether hip hop is more popular than house in South Africa, but I really think it is the most influential genre with the youth from lifestyle to personality influence added with that aspirational factor. Meanwhile, back in the U.S according to Forbes and the Nielsen Music mid-year report that tallies song and album performances, Hip Hop (and Rn'B) is officially the most consumed music genre this year and possibly going into the future. You can't deny the power of these raps, beefs, fashion statements and overall lifestyle. The era of the rock star is fast taking a back seat to the era of the rap star. Whoooohaah!
