@Naycha_SA x @PrimeEzy – Rose City Thorns By @Freed_Davids

Lately when one listens to Hip Hop music, a lot of attention is invested on the hooks than verses due to the fact that they’re usually the inviting part of the records. However, Bloemfontein duo Naycha and PrimeEzy have done things differently on their latest collaborative project titled Rose City Thorns.

The 12 record mixtape kicks off with a track titled Savage featuring CAASK, this being the only feature on the project. On this song they’re letting you know of how they’re living and they live as Savages; drinking all the time, hanging out with bad girls doing all sorts of things, no feelings involved though. They also let you know that they don’t hang around with home boys who are only there when it’s beneficial, “cutting all the blood suckers who only pull up when they need me, and I know the snake moves”

“Keep it 100 no digit missing, n??ga ya’ll ain’t fvxking with the clique” raps Naycha on On The Low, a song which is basically about putting in more work and being ahead of their peers. “Been ahead of my time since I came on the scene all the sh! they planning is just a flash back to me/” Verse two has a dope and catchy delivery and it also gives you an explanation of why the homies are ahead of the rest, “We just about the work, I’m in the studio daily/ If I’m too early, then I’m on time/ If I’m on time, then I’m too late” Got it? That’s how we get the fattest worm, take notes. I love the production, it's so chilled.

Liquor & Emotions is all about relationships that didn’t work out and left boys broken. Naycha comes in well on the first verse with heartfelt bars like, “Just think about it, if you never trust your lil’ light how you going to shine?/ if you never gave me all of you and held back how you know you’re mine?/ I tried to show you there’s another life you were just too afraid to jump the fence/ you always said we wanted the same things but we don’t see them in the same light/ we all got to make choices, but your heart knows if it ain’t right.” The boys immaculately embedded their feelings on this mid tempo beat. Nicely done, I love the vulnerability here. It’s quite a relatable record.

Ha Mnate Jwang on the other hand is a laid- back record but with a lot of vibe. It’s about turning up with the squad and some fine girls. It is infectious without reservation, from the hooks to the verses. The boys have great synergy. I was wondering how the live rendition could actually go, but not anymore because the Live Interlude got it sorted out and it sounds like it’s quite a vibe Ha Mnate Jwang!

Way Way and Finer Things, are all about living a way way upper life having all the finer things and I am happy that the lads fathom the fact that to live an upper life you need to work over time, “I’ve never had a day off, put the work in overtime,” Naycha raps on OT Freestyle which is about working hard with the whole squad, love how the boys feed off each other’s energy as they exchange verses - superb.

They wrap up the tape with a tranquil record titled Ghost, a nice way to end the project with bars on a laidback tip. PrimeEzy raps confidently owning the flow, “I’m the ocean making waves with the woes, my n??ga all they can do is just hope that I don’t make it big I’m too sick but the body full of medicine yeses.”
I love this project. The production is too dope. The boys sound stellar together; this is what we call a collaborative effort. Lyricism is very much alive on this project as well. I also love their delivery game and mastering of energy levels per verse, superb execution.
