Onlifer's Review: @Ian_Reigns – The 7 Day Weekend By @Freed_Davids

I have known this guy for a while and I am quite impressed with the growth that he has shown on this project. I've seen him go from bad to good, switch it up and be amazing. Ian Reigns’ debut mixtape is evidence that just because you don’t like something it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t support. We ought to support our artists and allow them to grow. The 11 track project gives a thorough insight into the rapper’s life from relationships and friendships to the hustle.

On the first two tracks, Rewind and Straight Outta Kontrol, the rapper distinctively shares stories of how he got here. From everything being a dream to countless nights in the studio, him planning all the things he had to do get where he wants to be. These two records also show his determination to succeed as an artist, he really pours his heart out and creatively so. There are punch lines all over project.

The next two songs, Sober featuring Blvck Sheep and Mc D, as well as Too Lit are immaculate club records, nothing short of greatness. If there's one thing Ian has mastered well it's accommodating everyone. If you want bars; storytelling, or let's make it a day to remember records, he got you covered. I don't know how he manages to do this but he's very excellent with it.

“Even if gravity didn't exist, I'd still stay down with my n!@as," he raps on Change Teams which features Black Myth. The song is a bro code - no matter what, the squad sticks together. It's a great collaborative effort; Black Myth complemented Ian too well. The song is too dope. And by the way the team is not scared of anything, there's nothing to be scared of. Black Myth said it, "we never scared/ hita chava mani?" Maybe you? No, I doubt.

Moving to Complicated, it tells a story of a complicated relationship where he doesn't know whether to leave or hold on.
*"And I don't want to do this anymore at the same time I want plenty more."

The rapper is pouring his heart out but still spitting crazy punch lines, you'd actually think his heart bumps in punch lines. He has punch lines on the hook too.
Mary Jane is a pot head anthem. I love how he personalized the green and made it sound like he was talking about a person. If you not listening right you might actually think that he's rapping about a girl, nicely done over a slow tempo beat. The song is quite contagious you might need a couple of spins before you get to hear of the dos and don'ts of mixing the purple drink from the mighty lean lord Ian Reigns on Purp Gawd.
On Swichavisa Badi, Ian goes vernec with the aid of Black Myth and Logical Rhymez who also produced the song. The song shares a story of a girl who can do wonders with what her mom gave her enough to have bars written about her. Great synergy the lads work well together, this a great turn up record. Dope production by Logical Rhymez.

On And on Outro, wraps up The 7 days weekend. And just like Sunday it makes you wish there was more but unfortunately that's all, at least this time around it’s a weekend you can repeat. I love the song, so much soul in it. It’s a win over I played it first when I heard the project and as much as I couldn't stop playing it I also couldn't stop wondering what the tape had in store.

I listened; I heard growth, creativity, excellence, great music. It’s such a dope thing to witness such growth from an artist. If you were never there when it started at least you can witness the greatness on the link below:
