#BalconyInterview: @PdotO_SA On The Importance Of Storytelling Rappers

By @Spokenpriestess on 02/21/2017 in

"We don't have enough storytellers, we cater to the same market..." - PdotO

We sat down with arguably one of the more "conscious" and reflective rappers in the game right now to talk about his style of writing and making music. He explains to us where he draws his references from in terms of the beliefs he holds about music's purpose. I stand with him in reiterating that we need more storytellers of the South African truth, for the normal person. Naturally, our realities differ but his point is important. PdotO says he wishes more songs of today were soul touching and life changing like Skwatta Kamp's Landela or Tuks Senganga's Bona Fela back in the day for him. Now, don't get us wrong, this is not to say there aren't artists who bleed truths of their people like Youngsta and more. PdotO acknowledges that there need to be different sides to an artist and perhaps the storytelling sides are neglected ever so often.
